It’s gonna be hard to put into words the things – the feelings, the love, the emotions, the magic – that were felt and shared during this session.
In Felicia’s words: Today, I woke up at 3:30 am, hiked a good bit, and climbed on rocks in heels so Matthew could tell me “So, I lied to you.”
This is a story I won’t ever forget. Felicia & Matt contacted me recently to photograph their wedding which they’re planning in just a few short months, and other than instantly feeling a wonderful connection it felt like a pretty typical chain of events – until Matt emailed me asking if it would be okay if he proposed during their engagement session.
I’m thinking to myself, well, I don’t typically book couples who aren’t engaged yet. But my heart started pounding a little faster and I knew this was going to be good.
I’ll let Felicia tell the rest of the story:
I told Matt that I didn’t want or need a grand proposal— that he could have thrown a ring box at my head in our pajamas and the result would be the same. He told me he still wanted to propose, but we’d see how things played out. And when I aired my suspicions about a proposal at (what was supposed to be) our pseudo-engagement shoot, I was immediately shot down, saying “I wouldn’t do that. That’s so corny!”
So… IMAGINE. MY. FREAKING. SURPRISE. right? when my quads are on fire from getting my ass up on those rocks in heels, that he looks at me with his hand in his pocket and says “So, I lied to you.”
he goes on, “I know we’re already getting married, and I know you said you didn’t need it, but you deserve a proper proposal.”
So he puts the ring on my finger and the only thing that can come out of my mouth is, “you asshole!” and when I apologized, he said “no no, I figured it would be something like that!” 😂 (woops)
Guys, we are walking testaments to the fact that things fall apart so that the RIGHT things can come together. We really thought we knew what love was going into this, but my god, we were and are still proven wrong, time and again. We also know that life is too short to have a “what’s the rush?” mentality. When something is right, and you KNOW it is, why wait?
And then – just as the sun peeked over the hilltops…
Oh, and then it rained for about 15 seconds.
